This in response to a question about whether and how memory is related
to repetition. I just wanted to add that in D&R, there is also a
sense in which memory prevents repetition; that is, repression
represses in order to repeat, and as long as there is memory there
can be no genuine repetition. Of course, repression, as recast in
D&R, is itself a kind of memory, but one which is synthesized in
a habit, rather than related in a discourse as a 'mere' repetition
of an 'original' occurence.
