Re: "Form" and "Function"?

Which modern architect of any importance ever said form(decoration) follows
function(structure). The usual Modernist interpretation of "form follows
function" is that form is derived from frunction.

To say thet form expresses function is manner which Tsuchiya is quite silly.
ie., form(decoration) expresses usage(functio)" or "decoration and use are one".

If you leave form to be simply the mechanical/structural aspects of a building
and express them as decorative items the result is buildings like the
"pompideau center" in Paris. But, there is certainly a lot more to function
than mechanics and structure - not the least of which is the use that
humans will put to the building.

I don't particularly agree with the idea that ther design of object s , in
particularly buildings, should follow rigid dicctums like "form follows functn".
But, let's not use it to glue eagles on our mailboxes.
