We are looking for architects, designers, engineers, manufacturers, social
workers, students and others who are interested in learning about (or
participating in) a new design "think tank" that is starting in Chicago for
fall of 1994.

It is being co-founded by architect Stanley Tigerman and interior designer Eva
Maddox and will be run as an interdisciplinary team approach to solving social
problems. Two or three teams per semester will be led by Tigerman, Maddox,
six other faculty members and an array of outside consultants in solving
various problems for actual clients.

Examples of such problems are (1) eldercare/daycare prototypes, (2) job
retraining, (3) products and facilities for differently abled users, and (4)
health care issues, among others.

From its catalog: "ARCHEWORKS is committed to the production of new products,
the development of alternative uses for existing products and structures, the
design of buildings and interior environments which thoughtfully accomodate
their users, and the articulation of proposals that assist in reimagining a
new urban and public space."

Interns will attend for one semester or one year and will receive transfer
credits where appropriate or the equivalent of a one-year post-professional
degree. Tuition is $7,000 for a full year but financial aid will be
available. Classes will run from 3:00-9:00 p.m. (with certain collaborative
work beginning after 5:00) to accomodate those interns who are continuing to
work.

If you are interested or know of anyone else who might be, please contact us.
Positions for interns are still available for the 1994-1995 "maiden voyage" of
this venture.
