Re: Architecture as humor producer (was: Duchamp on Haha)

in my office, it was always denigrated as 'adolescent glee;' that is, when
ever Fred (now at Pompei A.D., where apparently there is even less humor) and
I took some theoretical abstraction to the point of the absurd, we got our
wrist(s) slapped.

One of the best instances was Fred's suggestion that if we won a P/A award,
our firm photo would be the three of us (inlc our boss) rolling in the
downtown park grass, making dog noises. After so much theory, it is
sometimes the best antidote. If you want more institutionalized relief, read
"The V-Girls" in an issue of October that is at least two years old.

Oh, another good one was the bathroom sink I design that consisted of a
section of lg dia alum pipe (12-15") in which a stone basin was inserted (at
one end). this was the receptor. The supply was a hot water bottle at the
end of a rubber hose. Water would be gotten by unscrewing the bottle cap.
It case hot water was desired, the bottle was wrapped with a wire that
served like an electrical coil (though I never solved the problem of how one
might prevent electrocution or buring the rubber). But I must admit my boss
(and client) almost did it, which is testimony to some degree of humor
(though he had lots of theory/bod-ily reasons to like it) in him. I did it
becuase he didn't like the 30 other ones I had developed prior to it.
