Guest Curator Fellowship at The Herb Lubalin Study Center

Qualifications

Professional designers, graduates of graphic design programs,
historians, and curators are welcome to apply. Acceptance is based
on the merits of the proposed project and the applicant's resume and/or
portfolio.


Application

The Lubalin Study Center seeks original proposals for installations
and/or exhibitions with publications related to the history and theory
of graphic desig. A preliminary should include a brief description of
the project and related publication. The applicant will work in
consultation with the assistant director of the Study Center who will
provide research, design and editorial advice as deemed necessary. The
dean of the School of Art will oversee the project. The final scope of
the project is contingent on efforts at fundraising (see budget below).


Background on the Study Center

The Herb Lubalin Study Center of Design and Typography at the Cooper
Union is recognized as a leading facility in the national and
international design communities for the examination and analysis of
design theory, criticism and history. Its collections, public
exhibitions, and publications serve as important educational resources in
the design arts.

The Lubalin Study Center is also the founder of the National Graphic
Design Archive Image Database, an on-line service devoted to the
collection, preservation and dissemination of graphic design. Additional

Preliminary Letter: May 15th, 1997; Proposal: June 23th, 1997

Notification

June 27th, 1997

Final Proposal

20 slides of project, 10 slides of portfolio (if applicable), project
description,
publication work plan/table of contents and funding proposal.

Salary
Eight Month Fellowship P.T, $17,500

Project Budget
$10,000 (to be supplemented by external funding identified by fellow)

Schedule/Hours
September to May, 1998 in preparation for project opening in late Spring
Twenty hours per week, full time for eight weeks
