the gender of architecture

On the cover of a recent publication, Harvard GSD symbolically depicted
architecture as a white male explorer, with a black male navigator and a
flaxen-haired white female handmaiden. I used this illustration in a
presentation I made at the first AIA Diversity Conference in Washington
DC.
