The Ars Electronica Center Linz presents a new art-project, which you can
join.
On the beginning of the new millennium, TeleZone will open its gates to
the users of the WorldWideWeb. We invite you to become an inhabitant or
citizen of this unique new telerobotic community.
The TeleZone is a telerobotic art installation that creates a parallel
between the real and the virtual. Visitors design architectural
structures using a CAD interface. These structures are carefully
constructed by an industrial robot arm which cements 1cm rectangular
elements within a 2 meter building area. Structures thus exist in two
forms: within the virtual space of a 3d simulator, and within the real
space of the Ars Electronica lobby. The result will reflect both, the
complex social interactions of the builders and the contrast between the
Cartesian world of pure design and the realities of mass, gravity, and
imprecision.

Die TeleZone ist eine Telerobotik-Kunst-Installation, die Parallelen
zwischen dem Realen und dem Virtuellen herstellt. Die inhabitants oder
citizen der TeleZone schaffen architektonische Strukturen mit Hilfe eines
CAD interface. Diese Strukturen werden dann von einem Roboter, welcher im
Ars Electronica Center Linz stationiert ist, mit 1cm grossen Rechtecken in
einem Bereich von 2x2m gebaut. Die gebauten Strukturen existieren nicht
nur physisch im Ars Electronica Center Linz sondern auch im virtuellen
Raum als 3D Simulation im WorldWideWeb. Das Resultat reflektiert sowohl
die komplexen sozialen Interaktionen innerhalb der Community, als auch den
Unterschied zwischen der kartesianischen Welt des puren Designs der
Simulation, und der Realitaet von Masse, Gravitation und Ungenauigkeiten.
