tips for laptops in power outages

don't know if you use a laptop alot but there
are some tips for prolonging the batteries. one
being make sure the display turns off after few
minutes (5 min vs. 10-45min). unplug everything
that draws power. if possible, plug-in if wi-fi'ing,
as it draws power (antennas). let the harddrive
spin down and do not use disks (CDs). use no
extra applications (esp. sound/processor intense
stuff). maybe even closing unnecessary apps.
sometimes closing the lid but not having the
screensaver (on a mac) can help prolong life.
turning off and booting up takes more energy,
but if no power restoration, it may be the best
way to keep a laptop going longer, if needed.
just some thoughts. some may not work or may
be inaccurate but worth sharing if out of e-juice.
