space tourism...

The US space agency is considering a Russian plan to keep crews aboard the
International Space Station (ISS) for a year at a time.

(quote)
The Russian space agency recently announced that US millionaire Gregory
Olsen would become the next space tourist, flying to the space station
either this October or in April 2005.

I read / heard somehwere the NASA is also considering sending private
tourists to space. If, again, Russia was taking (some) lead with such
idea...
Also heavy satellites are all european space agency (ESA) results.
If the NASA doesn't find a good idea to change the shuttle strategy and
use/design again heavier launchers, the gap will become bigger.
On the other end, the shuttle is the best taxi driver to send parts to the
international space station, so probably each superpower in space activity (
NASA and ESA) should improve their collaboration and avoid double spending.
