Cincinnati Museum Rehabilitation.

It's done. A two-year, $10.5 million facelift for the city's art museum
revealed old-time stonework that helped recapture the 107-year-old
institution's original design. The CAM reopens Friday after more than
a week of private previews and parties. Workers tearing down partitions that
have divided galleries discovered original stone arches, black granite columns f
featuring ornate carvings, and limestone walls. Restoration of the 2.5 story
Great Hall, focal point of the 1886 building that leads to remodeled
galleries, included adding a new grand staircase intended to better reflect
architect James McLaughlin's original design. Artwrok was cleaned and
rehung to display items inchronological order, new windows and track
lighting were installed, and new wall colors were painted to make exhibits
more visually appealing. "It's been something that in a museum career
only happens once," Elisabeth Batchelor, assistant dierector of
collections, said last week.
