Re: PEI being Chinese not Japanese. (fwd)

Hi,

Willard Wu wrote in response to my correction of I.M. Pei's ethnicity:

Mr. Rex, could you please be more specific?! You wrote,"There is a difference"
...to what?; may I ask?...The fact that he is Chinese and it bothered you,or
the fact that he studied at Harvard. Mr. Rex, the way I see it,if you don't
have the mind to begin with...then Architecture doesn't exist .
NOTE:Let me inform you that Japanese Architecture derived from Chinese
Architecture.

The correction I made was not intended to be a value judgement of
anyone's "race". The primary point of the post was to point out that he
is "american" (trained and a citizen). I thought that this was a
positive post since the earlier post to which I was responding had
instructed anyone interested in Mr. Pei's work to read a book on Japanese
Architecture. i hope you can agree that a book on Japanese architecture
wouldn't be the best source for work by or similar to Mr. Pei's work.

The difference between China and Japan is that they are two different
cultures, close in geographic proximity but each one unique.
Nothing "bothered" me.
I do have "a mind to begin with".
Architecture does exist.
I am aware that some of the origins of Japanese architecture are
derivative of Chinese architecture.

I am very hurt that you would construe my remarks as being xenophobic
and racist.
I don't need your preaching Mr. Wu so get the chip off your shoulder or
please find somewhere else to grind your axe.

Please apologize.

Brian Rex
