The electronic discussion list
PERSPECTIVES ON ETHICAL ISSUES IN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
discusses the Department of Health and Human Services
COMMISSION ON RESEARCH INTEGRITY
(January and February, 1995)

The Scientific Freedom, Responsibility and Law Program, American
Association for the Advancement of Science, has established the
electronic discussion list, PERSPECTIVES ON ETHICAL ISSUES IN SCIENCE
AND TECHNOLOGY. The list provides a forum for those working to
articulate, study, and respond to ethical issues raised by advances
in science and technology, and will likely be of interest to scientists,

engineers, policymakers, ethicists, students and others involved with
issues at the intersection of ethics, science and technology.

As a special feature during the months of January and February, the
list will be discussing the HHS COMMISSION ON RESEARCH INTEGRITY and
the role scientific and engineering societies can play regarding
scientific misconduct and research integrity. This is based on a
recent meeting of the AAAS Professional Society Ethics Group (PSEG) in
Washington, DC, with Dr. Kenneth Ryan, Chair of the HHS Commission.
During the electronic discussion, Dr. Ryan will be solicited for his
reactions and comments. In addition, depending on how the discussion
develops, a transcript may be forwarded to the Commission.

Additional types of information shared on the network include: calls
for papers; announcements of publications, courses, conferences and
other meetings; reviews of articles and books; requests for information
or contacts regarding particular issues; items related to educational,
research, or advocacy opportunities; information on new regulations or
codes; and news of the professional activities of subscribers.

The discussion list is based on a listserv account and is accessible
to anyone who can receive and send e-mail. This new listserv is
public, meaning that anyone can post a message to the listserv address
and it be will forwarded to all subscribers. Upon subscribing, you
will receive an e-mail message from the listserv that provides
directions on how to post messages and how to get further information
about other listservs.

To subscribe to the listserv send a one-line message to:
LISTSERV@xxxxxxxxxxxxx that reads: subscribe AAASEST firstname
