". . .Old stone houses, especially those with Huguenot flourishes like jamb-less fireplaces and large ceiling beams, carry high price tags. Huguenot-style furniture and artwork bearing Calvinist motifs are also prized.
But it's not always easy to distinguish Huguenot architecture and other cultural artifacts from those of the Dutch, Germans or Scandinavians. That's because Huguenot culture mixed with other non-British cultures during the colonial and Federal periods, historians say.

''Most of the artifacts are either Dutch, English, German or northern French,'' said New Paltz archaeologist Joe Diamond of his local findings. ''A lot of them look a lot alike.'' "
