On World Bank's focus on Lucknow.
The Water Sanitation Programme of World Bank, under Jawahar National Urban
Renewal Mission (JNURM), has shortlisted 63 cities, including Lucknow, in
its development plan. What was the basis of this selection?
The JNURM has selected cities under three categories. First, it is the mega
cities with a population of over 40 lakh, then come the metros where the
population is more than 10 lakh followed by cities which are important from
a historical and religious point of view or are tourist destinations…….
…….. We have almost finished with the City Development Plan (CDP) and will
be submitting it by the end of January this year. After receiving the
report, the Government of India will issue 25 per cent of the total
expenditure. The plan will be put into force by February.
How successful do you think will this attempt be with the residents of
Lucknow?
For the first time in the history of Independent India, we have such an
urban development plan. It is in fact revolutionary.
Lucknowites are surely going to support our efforts. After all, a clean,
green and healthy Lucknow will be in their interest.
