Re: Wright's concrete blocks

There's a drawing sjowing how the "textile block" system was supposed to
work in _In the Realm of Ideas_. This drawing shows 1/4" rebar in the grooves
between each panel, both vertically and horizontally. The inner and outer
wythes are shown 6" apart and tied together with another piece of 1/4" rebar;
how anyone was supposed to tie it, I have NO idea!

As Robert Murray said, Wright intended this system to be a way for semi-skilled
workers (or owners) to construct the shell, thus reducing costs, but the
extensive labor involved negated any savings. I think all the textile block
houses built wound up being very expensive and built by skilled labor.

BTW, Storrer shows five Wright houses in MO; the Pappas house in St. Louis
is a Usonian Automatic.
