I am looking for researchers who are writing on the topic of AESTHETIC
REGULATION. In using this term, I refer to the tools through which local
government purposefully guides the future development and current use of
urbanized land with an eye toward its potential impact on the physical
appearance of the community.
Examples: anti-litter ordinances, requirements for landscaped
buffers, graphics and billboard controls, tree preservation,
architectural design controls, screening of outdoor storage, and scenic
vista protection.
I am writing a series of articles and I hope to undertake a code
content analysis and ordinance enforcement study. I welcome any
references to previous studies in this genre.
