Re: Green Buildings in Europe - Help

Thank you for your prompt reply. I think that there may be some misinterpre
tation of my comment. Having been raised in the Calvinistic territory of
Switzerland, I admire greatly vernacular architecture with its multiple lessons
in the correct and ancestral modes of building, especially high in the moun-
tain areas. I have been on and off a faculty member in the Lexington area of
Kentucky and do have some undeerstanding of the Shaker architecture. Certainly
based on other principles of a vision of aa ideal society this architecture wit
h the swiss and certainly the Quaker one are not about the denial of materiali
ty. I agree , however having visited Rietveld house I remain under the impressi
on that its belonging to the neo-plastic movement I can hardly share your views
on this house as being an example of materiality. The aethetic of austerity
has to my mind no relationship in this specific case to the following obser-
vations:To some exception it is impossible to recognize the specificities of
the various materials used and certainly the use of color as a plastic exten-
tion of space is not what I would understand as materiality. Thank you once aga
in for your comments Henri T. de Hahn
