Harold Evans, the former editor of the Times, in his book on
photojournalism gives some good examples of doctored newspaper photographs.
He discusses the ethics of this practice. The technologies may have
changed, photomomtage with an air brush, versus computer doctoring, but the
ethics are the same. I can't remember the title of the book, the article
also ran in the British Journal of Photography about ten years ago.
