I cannot make sense of it.

This same quality is
experienced when walking down a street to the corner and crossing.

The next day you walk down the street to the corner and see a blue
box with an eagle on it. You put your correspondence in the box.
Suddenly you see a white box truck with an eagle on it. They go to
the box and pick up the cargo. They drive, you know where, to the
building POST where all the white trucks with eagles are parked.
The time is 3:29 and you know your piece is being shuffled off to
the airport. Will it get their in 3 days or not, you wonder.
Then you think of the central post office in the other city,
wherever. And you remember your visit there, and seeing the little
building POST there, there is where your letter will be, you think.
And the ritual of the transit, the box, the person, the bag,
the uniform, and the slot on the door of your friends house.
So complete a program, such a building, signified.

If mapped out, the object (blue box) would be invisible to the
conscious until they needed the utility of communication and
transportation. This building typology, as it functions,
includes buildings, transportation types, communications, and
architectural elements in the landscape (blue box).

The network here is not only understood by looking at the
Regional Post Office, or Metro Post Office, or branch
Post Offices, but is easily identified with informed investigation
as to the architecture of the letter itself.

I assume:
All buildings rely in some form on the
infrastructure of communication/energy/transportation.

These building can be seen coherently within the armature of wooden
poles and metal towers, where they have actual physical connections.

seemingly, all the networks perform in a similar manner.
If you understand how this message gets to you, and where the
listserv is located, there may be a sense of space when receiving
or sending mail.

Cyberspace, and its future virtual real, will exist within the
buildings (and computers) and between the cables that are stretched
along the wooden poles. The metal towers, the cellular towers,
the satellite dishes, the radio telescopes, the transatlantic
cables, the satellite in space are the physical manifestations
of this place. This "place" can be 'seen' in the forms mentioned
above, or that one is inside and the other outside...

Cyberspace (computer architecture) and
The Architecture of Electricity (Infrastructural Architecture).

Archaeologists may someday excavate our civilazation, or better yet,
Walter Percy will have an Alien come Down to Earth and look for what
is similar. What would an Alien see around the globe in terms of
built form, that would satisfy the desires of the definitions of
architecture? (w/electric time/space)

Wooden Poles. Metal Towers. Dams. Airports. Computers. Phones.

Philosophy and The Mirror of Nature. (Rorty?)

This is the logic that Moholy-Nagy referred to in his Typocollage.
If you at times understand language as being mathematical, or have some
skill using mathematics as a language, then you would be performing a
similar function. Say, the screenwriter and the scientist.

Plato, on Socrates, where he looks into a pond and realizes
letters and numbers are of the same origin, revealed through reflection.

My point.

The Oil Platform is architecture. The crane and the battleship and
the transmission tower. The Tanker and Port. The Desert Well.
The national network of oil and gasoline refinement and distribution.
The storage tanks. The tanker trucks. The "Shell" Sign.
the "AMOCO" gas station. The building. The Lighting. The program.
the utility. The aesthetic. The origin. The gas pump and meter.
the call box. The ritual. The experience. The space. The order.
The time. The colors. The significance of the facade, not of one
franchise building, but of a network of franchise buildings, and the
buildings and networks and global activity, and government involvement
with the private networks, infrastructure.

And a leap to Seismic Building, for earthquake detection and oil
and mineral resource detection. Civic as the others, but most likely
public. What a great Boullee building section!

The buildings program includes the landscape, or the network of objects
that make up this program. This section, I would say, tells the whole
story of the building in dramatic fashion. Add, say, units of measure
in miles, or thousands of miles. The extension of the building, through
technology, is still architecture, IMO.

A predictable architectural drawing for this would be as follows...
________
__________H________X________|______|_aaa____________________
building \cars/delivery

To understand this building through its plan and section and elevation
it would be truly necessary to account for the missing items as they
are the "program" of the building itself. And to insert the larger
order of communications, both with its own communications network and
the larger systems, would bring a rational connection to the general
system. Agree? This might mean a diagramatic cognitive mapping of
the associated systems DOD, Earthquake Response, NatlWeatherService,
DOE, et amoc.

My point is from this example. I understand that practical architecture
cannot compete with scientific research and space exploration in the
everyday. But at the same time, when the diagram above is replaced
with that of the house (or even city/innercity/suburbs/rural/)
the "value" of "seeing" the physical connections of electricity,
phone, cable, computer network (cyberspace) in the realm of one building.
And that each of these lines goes to a building itself, a building of
a higher order than other buildings (power station/supercomputer).
And to have a sectional view of the house with a radio, and to "see"
and "understand" the waves are ever present. And to see the radio
broadcast, and to know this is what "that object in the landscape"
is a part of.

Unrealistic, but the scientists seem to know what everything is.
Astrophysicists, Engineers, BioChemists, they can rationalize it,
so why can't architects? Especially when it is so fundamental a
progress with such a dynamic history of form(al aesthetic).

(woodpoledistributemetaltowertransmit)
that also can be used to
rationalize architecture
in relation to technology
through the infrastructure.
Define its social role.
