South Korea plans to move capital
---------------------------------------
The government in South Korea announced a controversial plan to move the
seat of government from busy Seoul to two scenic rural counties.

The Independent writes that "the shift away from Seoul, the home to more
than 10 million people and a Korean capital since the 14th century, still
faces legal obstacles" but Prime minister Lee Hae-Chan said "land purchases
would begin next year and construction was scheduled to start in 2007."

The Guardian writes the building of the new capital "will be one of Asia's
biggest ever constructed projects." £26 billion will be used to transform a
"sleepy region 100 miles south of Seoul" into the new seat of government
and parliament by 2020.
