Tuesday, September 28: Frank Gehry
Frank Gehry is the world___s reigning contemporary architect, the most
influential and important architect of the 20th century, now going strong
in the 21st century. He is internationally known for his distinctive
designs, which incorporate new form and new materials___copper, zinc,
titanium, stainless steel and indigenous stone___especially sensitive to
the cultural and visual context of the buildings___ surroundings. Among his
most notable cultural projects are: The Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao; The Walt
Disney Concert Hall, L.A.; the Frederick R. Weisman Art Museum in
Minneapolis; and the soon to be built Corcoran Wing. He has garnered every
prestigious award given to architects and artists. Marc Pachter, historian,
distinguished interviewer and Director of the National Portrait Gallery
engages in dialogue with Mr. Gehry.
