Well, like all analogies, the question is: Does it hold? I haven't fixed =
my mind one way or the other. It's an open question with me.

"Does thinking really reveal the Truth?"

Maybe it is better to say: Thinking participates in the revelation of =
Truth.

"Does it not rather reveal the truth about truth, does it not rather =
uncover by saying the sway of truth as disclosure of being?"

Assume yes. But how does thinking become endowed with this capacity to =
reveal the truth about truth? Is this something thinking possesses in =
itself? How and to what extent is thinking self-moved? Does thinking =
need to possess this capacity to reveal *before* it can uncover the sway =
of truth by saying? Or is being the source of thinking itself and all =
its possessions?=20

Is there a fundamental dichotomy between this capacity of thinking to =
uncover and the disclosure of being itself? Or a more original unity? =
What are the fundamental characteristics of thinking and being?=20

(Heidegger raises all the most important philosophical questions but we =
need to meet him now in the elenchus.)

few and seldom self-selecting ones. "

Does "seldom" go with "self-selecting" or with "few"? I'm trying to =
figure out whether the "ones" (a) always select themselves [the latter =
alternative: "few and seldom ones"] or (b) have an elite within the =
elite that select themselves (the lesser of the elite only being called =
and responding to a call, whereas the greater create their own mission) =
[the former alternative: "seldom self-selecting"]. Maybe you're not sure =
and this is just Heideggerian mimesis, the phrases rolling easily off =
the tongue...? :-)

About this "sway of truth": how is it that truth can have something like =
a sway? Granted that the truth can be known (for example, about how =
semiconductors work), can the truth itself of truth be known only =
through revelation to a select few (for example, that truth itself is a =
moving target: always flowing, always radically historical)?=20

Why does the disclosure of being only privilege a few? Is there more =
than one kind of sway? Why is Heidegger's sway for gnostics only, as =
opposed to a historical revelation made for one and all?
