"Auseinandersetzung is for all (that are present [Anwesenden]), the
begettor [Erzeuger] which allows emerging, but (also) the guardian
holding-sway [waltender Bewahrer] for all" [IM 61/EM 47]. In his exegesis
of this Fragment, Heidegger writes:
The polemos named here is a conflict [Sreit] that held sway prior to
everything divine and human, not a war [Krieg] in the human sense. This
conflict [Kampf], as Heraclitus thought it, let essences first stand-out
against one another [l=E4=DFt im Gegeneinander das Wesende allerste
auseinandertretten]; it gave rise to the first relations of position and
order and rank in presencing. In such standing-out apart
[Auseinandertretten], cleavages, intervals, distances, and joints opened.
In the Aus-einandersetzung, world comes into being [In der
Aus-einandersetzung, wird Welt]. [IM 62/EM 47]
