It's good to hear from you. The answer to your question is (tentatively -
I haven't really crunched this through just yet) yes - and no. I think
that from the Nietzsche lectures Heidegger believed that Nietzsche had
completed metaphysics, but that he had not understood that perspective
which opened up in consequence of its completion. I also believe that
Heidegger viewed Being and Time as the first step in the direction of a new
perspective, and that he continued to hold that he was treading in just
that path that was opened up by what went before. In this sense I think
that something resembling an infant notion of the history of Being is at
work in his work early on. I can supply proof texts for this, though I
wouldn't want to push it too hard, and I am by no means arguing that it was
all clearly worked out by 1926/7.
The new perspective is just simply questioning - and nothing else. Those
of us who would question have also to experience the completion of metap
hysics.
All of this is not quite as clear as I would like as my head is full of
Latin and sunshine right now. It has to do with the death of God, and
there is a reference to this in connection with Nietzsche as early as
1924/5, which I have already commented on in this list some months ago.
