The distinctions between the design fields has unfortunately become more
pronounced. That these distinctions are artificial was one of the premises of
the (original) Bauhaus,Cranbrook, Black Mountain etc. and the argument for
keeping architecture (as a discipline) OUT of engineering schools.
Some of the practices of the 1950s were based on a blurring of these
distinctions, notably the offices of Eames,
Nelson, Saarinen, Chermayeff, Arne Jacobsen etc.
